The angel told him he was a poet and exhorted him to devote his life to joy. Now at the age of 82, Broughton can say that he followed that angel`s advice. In his long life, Broughton has published 18 books of strange and whimsical writing and made 19 experimental films, including the 1967 San Francisco "Summer Of Love" cult classic "The Bed". His third and current marriage -- to a man -- was celebrated in a Catholic church in Montreal in 1976. "This Way Out" is pleased to present the first of the two-part "WORKING FOR BIG JOY", a profile of James Broughton written and hosted by independent radio producer ROBIN WHITE, with comments by Broughton, who also reads from his poetry and prose; his first of two wives, movie critic Pauline Kael; KPFA-FM/Berkeley Poetry Editor Jack Foley; and longtime Broughton friend and Beat poet Michael McClure (also features music from "The Broughton Songs" CD by the late Chilean singer Ludar) [segment ends with a promo for next week`s concluding Part 2, voiced over an excerpt from Scott MacKenzie`s "San Francisco (Be Sure To Wear Some Flowers In Your Hair") .............................................................................. ................................................. 16:25 CLOSING CREDITS/CONTINUITY .............................................................................. ............ :55 TOTAL PROGRAM TIME .............................................................................. .......................... 29:00 -----------------------------Please note-------------------------------- Anyone with questions, suggestions, or NEWS stories is encouraged to email "T.W.O."
