SEGMENT #1 -  NewsWrap:  U.S. President Bill Clinton meets with a dozen gay &
lesbian community leaders at the White House [with comments by one of the
participants, Gloria Nieto of Santa Fe, New Mexico's People of Color With
AIDS Foundation, provided by VAL M. COX];  the National Gay & Lesbian Task
Force hosts a meeting of representatives from queer groups in 32 U.S. states
to form the Federation of Statewide Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender
Political Organizations;  lesbian and gay couples in British Columbia win
status equal to unmarried heterosexual couples in child-related matters,
while 3 same-gender couples sue for the right to marry in Vermont;  an
openly-gay man in Britian loses his appeal trying to establish succession to
his deceased partner's tenancy of their shared home, but the ruling is
nevertheless hailed by the activist group Stonewall as "the clearest
statement yet by any English court that the law needs to change";  Wall
Street continues to recognize gay & lesbian couples with separate
announcements this week that domestic partner health benefits will be offered
to employees of J.P. Morgan & Company, Wells Fargo Bank, and Union Bank;  the
Episcopal Church USA approves spousal health benefits for partners of its
lesbian and gay employees, and apologizes to gays and lesbians "for years of
rejection and maltreatment";  and "Ellen" and its now openly-lesbian star
Ellen DeGeneres collect 5 Emmy nominations from the Academy of Television

SEGMENT #2 -  Billboard for "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away" [:15]  +
 Andrew Cunanan's alleged "spree killings" ended on July 23rd as his dead
body, from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound, was discovered on a
houseboat in Miami Beach, not far from the home of openly gay top fashion
designer Gianni Versace, believed to have been the last of his 5 victims.
 These murder mysteries, which began over 2 months ago in Minnesota, will
continue beyond Cunanan's death, however, as many questions about his
motives, and law enforcement's handling of the case, remain unanswered
[written by CINDY FRIEDMAN and LUCIA CHAPPELLE, with on-scene coverage by TIM
