SEGMENT #1 -  NewsWrap:  The Hungarian Parliament recognizes gay and lesbian
couples for purposes of inheritance and pensions following the death of one
partner;  the Australian lesbigay community is divided over the issue of
same-gender marriage;  U.S. President Bill Clinton says he will sign DOMA -
the federal anti-queer "Defense Of Marriage Act" - if it passes in the House
and Senate [with a lengthy excerpt from a CLINTON PRESS CONFERENCE this week,
during which he defended his position on the issue];  a "Newsweek" poll this
week confirmed a majority of Americans' opposition to same-gender marriage,
but also revealed strong support for equal housing and employment rights for
gays and lesbians;  meanwhile, South Carolina Governor David Beasley's
signature makes his state the 10th to deny recognition to another state's
legal same-gender marriages, with Missouri and Illinois likely to be next,
while Michigan's House approves a bill to deduct from any state university's
appropriations whatever amount it spends on benefits for the gay and lesbian
partners of its employees;  Slovenia's newly-revised penal code includes both
basic provisions against sexual orientation discrimination and against
granting special rights or privileges on the same basis;  Brazilian activists
demonstrate against the lack of civil rights protections for lesbians and
gays under the National Human Rights Program;  about 3,000 queers march
through Brussels, Belgium demanding equal rights;  The European Commission On
Human Rights agrees to consider a complaint filed by teen activist Euan
Sutherland over Britain's higher age of consent law for gay male sex than for
hetero sex;  three transvestite prostitutes are killed in the space of three
hours in Toronto, Canada, while dozens demonstrate in Chicago to protest the
brutal murder of transsexual entertainer Christian Paige;  ten queers in
Buenos Aires chain themselves to the gates of Chile's Embassy to Argentina in
protest of homophobic violence and the sodomy law in Chile, while in the
Chilean city of Santiago, 50 people are detained during a filmed police raid
of two gay bars;  a county court judge's ruling this week that a massive 1994
police raid on a gay club in Melbourne, Australia was "unreasonable" could
cost the Victoria police millions of dollars in damages;  and, while "former
U.S. presidents" Jack Lemmon and James Garner hide from the bad guys by
joining a parade in a scene from the upcoming film "My Fellow Americans", a
North Carolina high school principal won't let his band be in the movie
because the fictional parade is a lesbigay pride march  [compiled and written
