Are We A People Or A Sexuality? Recently, author Frank Browning posed this provocative question in his new book "Queer Geography", arguing that a gay identity (defnining ourselves by our sexual orientation) is a peculiarly American phenomenon. In many of the cultures he explored, gay sex goes on all the time, but no one defines themselves by it, or seems to attempt the long-term, emotionally monogamous relationships or gay marriages as we do here. This hour-long feature looks at gays and lesbians in many different cultures: Russia, Italy, Cuba, Ireland, Native American, Portugal, and others, in an attempt to answer the age-old question: "Are we a people and a culture, or simply a sexual minority, with no more in common than our desires and our oppression?"
