DENEUVE French grande-dame and actress, Catherine Deneuve is suing Deneuve--the four-year-old lesbian magazine--for trademark infringement, according to Folio: First Day. The magazine refused to comment on the case although executive editor Katie Brown did say that the title does not refer to the film star (and lesbian icon) but to the editor in chief's first girlfriend. David Korzenik, a New York City-based lawyer, said Deneuve (the actress) has a good chance of winning the case on at least four bases, including trademark law and the right of publicity. The right of publicity, which prohibits the use of another's name for monetary gain, is Deneuve's ''strongest arrow'' said Korzenik. And French law is even more solicitous of a person's rights to control their persona, he added. Deneuve (the actress) filed the suit in Los Angeles and in France.
