Subject: The Harvard Gay and Lesbian Review.

               The HARVARD GAY AND LESBIAN REVIEW is a
          reality!  After much hard work, the first issue of
          this important new journal is off the presses and
          available.  Let me quote from editor Richard
          Schneider's introduction:

               "With this issue we begin publication of THE
          HARVARD GAY AND LESBIAN REVIEW, a quarterly
          journal of essays reviews, and poetry of interest
          to lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, queers -- and
          straight people.  "Just great writing," announces
          our slogan: The purpose of THE REVIEW is to
          provide a forum for work of the highest quality
          without regard to subject area, political
          orientation, or cultural commitment.  This issue
          includes a critical essay on five literary works,
          a psychologist's ideas on the origins of
          homosexuality, an interview with a well-known
          lesbian author, and the memoirs of a famous gay
          novelist.

               "Periodicals by and for gay people have
          proliferated in recent years -- slick "lifestyle"
          magazines like OUT and GENRE along with a thousand
          special-interest magazines to match every taste.
          Missing, still, is a national venue for the
          literate non-specialist covering a range of topics
          and genres.  Where, as I am not the first to ask,
          is THE NEW YORK REVIEW OF BOOKS for gay people?
          The NEW YORKER?  or THE NEW REPUBLIC?  The aim of
          THE REVIEW is to publish stimulating pieces that
          give full treatment ot a topic rather than a
          superficial gloss.

               "THE REVIEW will publish essays, reviews,
          poetry, and artwork -- but not short fiction.
          Anyone is welcome to submit their work to THE
          REVIEW -- not just Harvard affiliates.

               "Advertising space will be available in future
          issue.  It is assumed that publishers of books and
          periodicals will be the most likely to take out
          space.

               "THE REVIEW is being published by The harvard
          Gay & Lesbian Caucus and this issue underwritten
          by THE OPEN GATE, a non-profit foundation."

               Copies of the first issue of this important
          REVIEW can be obtained for $5.  Upcoming issues of
          THE HARVARD GAY AND LESBIAN REVIEW promise to be
          as lively as this one.  Where else can you read,
          in a single magazine, the memoirs of Andrew
          Holleran, an interview with Blance McCray Boyd,
          and the poetry of Mark O'Donnell?  THE REVIEW will
          be available in SOME bookstores (including New
          York's A DIFFERENT LIGHT) but the only way to make
          sure that you don't miss an issue is by
          subscribing.  The rate for one year -- 4 quarterly
          issues -- is only $16.
