                              Magnus Magazine Launched;
Opinionated Journal Challenges Other Gay San Francisco Publications

San Francisco, CA - Magnus, a new monthly journal of gay and lesbian news,
opinion and culture hit the streets of San Francisco today. Edited
collectively by Andrea Lindsey, David Pasquarelli and Michael Petrelis,
Magnus was launched to provide a skeptical view of queer politics, which the
editors believe is sorely lacking in Bay Area media outlets.

Contributors include the Ad Hoc Committee for an Open Process, Ronnie Burk,
Steve Huggins, Steven D. Keller, Christine Maggiore, Shawn O'Hearn and
William B. Turner.

Topics covered in the premier issue include the Federal Election Commission
records for Bay Area Reporter owner Bob Ross and his political editor Wayne
Friday; HIV contact tracing; the alleged syphilis outbreak among gay men
cruising web chat rooms; Martina Navratilova's lack of contributions to
lesbian candidates; questions about what causes AIDS and the drugs to treat
the disease; along with reviews of films, books and CDs.

Ten thousand copies of Magnus were printed. It has 24 pages, was published
on newsprint and has a two-color cover. Magnus is primarily being
distributed free at San Francisco cafes, sex venues, bars, bookstores and
medical marijuana clubs. The publication will also be shipped to queer
establishments in select cities. If readers know of local businesses willing
to circulate Magnus, they are asked to contact the editors.

Magnus is also available on the web at www.magnusnews.com. Postal mail
subscriptions are available at $24 for twelve issues.

The magazine is named after Dr. Magnus Hirschfeld (1868 - 1935), a
German-Jewish homosexual leader who founded the world's first gay rights
organization, The Scientific Humanitarian Committee in 1898.
