C.C.WATCH ALERT for May 15, 1995 Christian Coalition to Unveil Its Own Contract The Christian Coalition will unveil its 10-point "Contract with the American Family" on Wednesday, May 17. The Wednesday press conference is scheduled for 10 AM. C-Span is not yet announcing coverage, but the Legislative Office of the Christian Coalition says that "CNN and all the major networks" are scheduled to be there. Executive Director Ralph Reed will explain the plan to viewers on tomorrow's "700 Club." (Check your local listings.) As tomorrow is also the 3rd Tuesday of the month, the "contract" most likely will be thoroughly discussed on the Christian Coalition satellite TV show at 8 PM. (The first half hour is on the National Empowerment Network. The 2nd half hour is a closed session downlinked to sites around the country via Galaxy 4, 99 degrees west.) (An article in the Virginia Pilot on May 11 said that all indications were that the "contract" would stop short of asking for a constitutional amendment banning abortion. Christian Coalition spokesperson Mike Russell was quoted as saying that "These are 10 suggestions; they are not 10 commandments. Right now, we'd like to see favorable reactions from the leadership." The "contract's" release will kick off a huge lobbying effort by the Christian Coalition to refocus debate to "family issues." Analysts were predicting a document palatable to both Christian Coalition members and the Republican Party.) It should be very interesting to compare what is said to "700 Club" viewers and Christian Coalition members on Tuesday, to what is said to the "national mainstream press" on Wednesday.
