Africa, and the Caribbean.  Contributors include Samuel R. Delany
(who1s sold over 4 million books), Randall Kenan (Let the Dead Bury the
Dead), K. Anthony Appiah (novelist and Harvard University professor),
and James Earl Hardy (B-Boy Blues).

Bruce Morrow is the recipient of the Frederick Douglass Cultural Arts
Center Young Fiction Writer1s Award.  His work has appeared in the New
York Times, Callaloo, and Speak My Name: Black Men on Masculinity and
the American Dream.  Charles Rowell, professor of English at the
University of Virginia, is the editor of the journal Callaloo and the
anthology Ancestral House: Black Short Stories in the Americas and
Europe.

Together the voices in SHADE bear witness to the cultural changes
wrought by the civil rights, feminist, and gay liberation movements,
