What: Stonewall 25 is an expansion of the annual Lesbian/Gay pride events celebrating the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Stonewall riots and the birth of modern Lesbian/Gay liberation in 1969. Many different groups are planning special conferences, actions and events which will combine into an enormous worldwide mosaic demonstrating the strength and diversity of the Lesbian/Gay movement. The world's first great International Lesbian/Gay March and Rally will take place in New York on Sunday, June 26, 1994. Pride committees in other cities have agreed to shift the dates of their events in 1994 so that over a million Lesbians, Gay, Bisexual people and our supporters from around the world can take part in this important human and civil rights march. Gay Games IV and the 16th Annual Conference of the International Lesbian and Gay Association (ILGA) highlight numerous other athletic, cultural, educational, political and religious/spiritual events taking place in New York during the last week of June and the first week of July. This will ensure the largest gathering of Lesbians, Gay men and Bisexuals in history. How: Stonewall 25 has received the support of many important organizations, including ILGA, the International Association of Lesbian/Gay Pride Coordinators, National Gay/Lesbian Task Force, and the National Organization for Women. There is a New York office to provide support services and handle the logistics of the march and rally. A United States steering committee will be set up in January 1993 to mobilize the large number of people coming to New York. At the ILGA conference in Paris, an International Advisory Committee will be formed to provide guidance on the language and concerns that will accurately define the global character of Stonewall 25. Finally, regional Stonewall 25 committees, Pride committees and other groups will be planning actions and celebrations appropriate to their local communities. A Global Calendar of Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual Events will provide support to these activities and focus media attention on the number and variety of our efforts. In 1992, at the annual International Association of Lesbian & Gay Pride Coordinators (IALGPC) meeting, a theme was chosen for local Pride events: Stonewall 25: A Global Celebration of Lesbian/Gay Pride and Protest.
