From 15th to 25th of June 1994 gay Amsterdam is going to paint the town red. Or should we say pink. Because Amsterdam has been chosen to host the 1994 Europride celebrations. The first Europride was held in London in 1992 end Berlin was the site in 1993. Both were a tremendous success. This year's extravaganza is going to be better yet. Europride gives European gays and Lesbians of all colors and every walk of life the opportunity to come together to celebrate our unity and diversity. And to make a clear statement that there is no place for discrimination and oppression in Europe. PINK SATURDAY. Europride will also mark the fifiteenth anniversary of the "Dutch Pink Saturday" on june 25. This annual event has come to be recognized worldwide as an example of gay and lesbian pride. Pink Saturday is held in a different Dutch city every year and this year it's going back to where it all began, Amsterdam. The festivities feature an ecumenical worship, a parade, information stands, a concert and boundless partying. It's a chance to recognize the Dutch gay and lesbian community's past achievements and to focus on future goals. In light of European unification, it is especially fitting that this year the Dutch gay community will be joined by 80 to 100 thousand European brothers and sisters from East, West, North and South. The Pink Saturday is sure to make gay history. ON THE MOVE. But don't worry. There'll be plenty to do in the eleven day run-up to the big saturday. Europride has something for everyone. Theatre programmes, films, a choir festival, debates, congresses, exhibitions, art exhibits and concerts with international stars. Plus there will be ample activities for the more physically active among us. A biker's rally, sports events, walking tours and a gay sail. And last, but certainly not least, lots of opportunities to live it up. Theme parties have been scheduled and Amsterdam's gay and lesbian bars are arranging special events throughout Europride and the closing party will be the BIGGEST BASH Europe has ever seen. MAKING PLANS. There won't be much time for sleeping, but nontheless you'll need a place to stay. Amsterdam boasts abundant accomodation and a convenient camping site. It's going to be extremely busy during Europride so don't forget to make reservations sufficiently ahead of time. Tickets for all events will on sale from may 2. To avoid disappointment get your orders in early. For more information about accomodation and reservations refer to the list of phone numbers below.
