MEDIA ADVISORY - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

"Whether you like it or not…..HEDWIG!"

"Six inches forward and five inches back," wails Hedwig
in the chorus of 'Angry Inch,' a song about a young girly-boy
in Cold War-era East Berlin who is seduced by an
American GI and promised a life in the United States if
"he" becomes a "she."

Liz Smith calls the show "In-your-face genius." The New
York Times says HEDWIG is "Sensational."

And on Sunday, October 24, at 7:30 P.M., you can attend
a GenderPAC special benefit performance of HEDWIG
starring Ally Sheedy as Hedwig (at the Jane Street Theater,
113 Jane Street).

"We are very excited to be producing our first-ever fund
raiser," said Riki Wilchins, Executive Director of GenderPAC.
"We couldn't have asked for a better match--Hedwig and
GenderPAC! This is going be a night that will rock the house
and Ally Sheedy in the role at Hedwig is the icing on the cake."

HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH is the award-winning
Off-Broadway smash that shatters the conventions of musical
theater (and gender identity) while satirizing American rock
and roll mythology. HEDWIG tells the comic story of Hedwig,
internationally ignored song stylist, and her triumphant rock &
roll journey - from her bizarre childhood in East Berlin to her
infamous love affair with former protege and rock icon Tommy
Gnosis.

Also in October, on Friday the 22nd, at 7:30 P.M.,
GenderPAC will host a FREE forum: "Talking Gender,
Talking Gay: Theater, Culture and Politics," with
representatives from prominent national GLBT organizations
and Off-Broadway's Hedwig and the Angry Inch, to be
held at the New York Gay & Lesbian Community Service
Center (One Little West 12th Street, Storefront Room).
