ASIAN & PACIFIC-ISLANDER LESBIAN & BISEXUAL 
WOMEN'S NETWORK HOSTS 2ND NATIONAL CONFERENCE 
AT UCLA, JULY 3-5


SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., June 8, 1998 - The Asian and Pacific-Islander 
Lesbian and Bisexual Women's Network (APLBN), a coalition supporting 
Asian and Pacific-Islander lesbian bisexual women, today announced its 
second national conference titled "Building Bridges: Spanning Our Past 
Toward Our Future," at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), 
Friday July 3, through Sunday, July 5. Performance Artists Canyon Sam, 
Jill Togawa of Purple Moon Dance Project, members of Rad Asian Sisters, 
Selena Whang of NVC, and other special guests are scheduled to perform 
during the Friday night cultural extravaganza. "The cultural extravaganza 
showcases the wonderful talent within our community and promises to be an 
event not to be missed," noted Pauline Aguilar, member of the Conference 
Planning Committee.

Formed in October, 1988, by participants of the 1987 National March on 
Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights, the self-described mission of 
APLBN is to "create visibility, build Leadership, develop resources and 
strengthen ties" among the Asian and Pacific-Islander Communities 
"through outreach and education."

The conference offers an all-day Activist Institute and a diverse slate 
of workshops, plenary panels and cultural events which is designed to 
celebrate the vision and struggles of the Asian and Pacific-Islander 
lesbian and bisexual communities, and support and empower political and 
social activism. "We're very excited about the Activist Institute which 
will strive to bring together Asian and Pacific-Islander activists to 
develop leadership and inspire political involvement within our 
community," explains Doreena Wong, one of the co-founders of APLBN.

A partial list of workshop topics includes: HIV/AIDS Awareness & 
Education; Transgender Issues; Queer Transracial Adoptees; 
Women's Health Issues; Advanced Healing Techniques; Website Design; 
Facing Out/Coming Out; Financial Awareness; Immigration Issues; 
Local & International Organizing; Racial Politics; Gender & Ethnicity;
Sexuality; Body Manipulation; Alternative Parenting; Affirmative Action; 
Domestic Violence; Transracial Relationships; Questioning Youth and more.

Cost for the 3-day conference is $160-$200, sliding scale, which
includes lodging, meals, workshops and entertainment. Commuter
costs are $80-$100, sliding scale; single day rates are $20-$50.
