The conference offers a form for debates among the disciplines. With the founding of the Mattachine Society and ONE Institute in the early 1950s, Los Angeles served as the birthplace of homophile activism in the U.S., and helped to usher in a powerful international lesbian and gay movement. Today, lesbian and gay filmmakers, artists and activists continue to push political and social boundaries in Hollywood, one of the more powerful homophobic industries. In this conference we will draw on both the historical beginnings of the Gay Movement and the new frontiers of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender academic work and representation. This conference invites students, activists, performers and artists from all disciplines, as well as others who are interested, to engage in collective discussion of new approaches to queer worldmaking in its broadest sense. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend this informative and worthwhile conference at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, March 23-26, 1995. Registration is $25 now and $30 after February 25th. The registration fee includes a ticket to a Friday night banquet, as well as all but two of your meals during the Conference. We will also provide you with free transportation and free entry to nightclubs in West Hollywood on Saturday night.
