                EMERGING ASIAN/AUSTRALIAN LESBIAN AND GAY
                               COMMUNITIES

               CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT  &  CALL FOR PAPERS

   Australian Centre for Lesbian and Gay Research, University of Sydney
                         International Conference

                          29-30 SEPTEMBER  1995

               Venue: Wesley College, University of Sydney

The Conference aims to bring to wider public attention the cultural, social,
political and economic issues that impact on Asian/Australian gay men's
and lesbians' opportunities to participate fully and equitably in their
respective societies.

Issues to be addressed at the Conference will include:
* The historical and contemporary expressions of homosexuality in Asian
  cultural, legal, political and social contexts;
* The emergence of gay and lesbian identities and subcultures in Asia;
* The globalisation of gay and lesbian cultural forms;
* HIV/AIDS and homosexuality in Asia;
* Discrimination, violence against lesbians and gay men and sex tourism in
  Asia; and
* Development issues concerning gay men and lesbians in Asia, in particular,
  opportunities for access to social and educational services and employment.

This conference is partially supported by a grant from NSW Health
AIDS/Infectious Diseases Branch.

Submission of Papers:  Persons interested in presenting a paper at the
Conference should contact the organisers  by 30 May 1995.

Conference Dinner: There will be an informal dinner for persons attending
the conference on the 29/9/95, to be held at a local restaurant.
