This comes to us via Rex Wockner. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Tue, 13 Jan 1998 06:16:17 -0500 From: John Aravosis Subject: Owen left 3 months ago, White House reaction An AOL employee who asked to remain anonymous contacted Tim McVeigh's advocacy team late Monday in Washington, DC. The individual claims that the elusive "Owen," who according to sworn Navy testimony is responsible for leaking confidential AOL subscriber information on former AOL member Timothy R. McVeigh of Hawaii to the US Navy, apparently left the Internet provider three months ago. The mole reported that AOL is" desperate" to find "Owen" before the media gets a hold of him first. According to the mole, AOL is going through a bruising internal battle between the legal, marketing and communications divisions with regards to how to respond to the McVeigh case. In addition, the individual reports that AOL "desperately" wants to get McVeigh's email account started again - AOL kicked McVeigh off the Internet service last Friday, after his story appeared in the New York Times, citing "abuse" of his account. Finally, an internal White House source contacted the McVeigh team late Monday to anonymously report a similar situation in the White House. Reportedly, White House lawyers are in a scramble to determine the appropriate response to the growing McVeigh scandle. "Memos are flying back and forth" in the White House, the mole reported. ___________________________________________________________________________ John Aravosis voice: 202-328-5707 Wired Strategies fax: 202-328-5708 1884 Columbia Rd., NW - Suite 1006 email: john@wiredstrategies.com Washington, DC 20009 web: http://www.wiredstrategies.com ** Online community-building, advocacy, research, training. ** CLIENTS INCLUDE: US Department of HHS Georgetown University Law Center AIDS Action National Education Association Widmeyer-Baker Group Institute for Women's Policy Research MicroStrategy National Perinatal Association America's Promise National Environmental Trust HandsNet US Senator Robert Torricelli American Civil Liberties Union Recording Industry Association of America Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Mead - -end- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Don't use the word 'gay' unless it's an acronym for 'Got Aids Yet?'". --Former Rep.
