[QI] [03/15/95] majordomo@abacus.oxy.edu subscribe qi Welcome to the QI (Queer Immigration) list! This mailing list is designed to facilitate discussion of the effect of immigration policy on gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender people and their allies. It is hoped that QI can be used as an organizing tool for organisations which are actively involved in the issues of how immigration policy affects Queers. There are currently active queer immigration task forces in a number of countries [Australia, Canada, United States, United Kingdom immediately come to mind]. QI is not officially affiliated with any one organisation. QI is also intended for individuals who are impacted by immigration policy in a wide variety of ways: 1) The impact of the passage of Proposition 187 in California and the entire American anti-immigrant backlash 2) SIX countries allow the foreign same-gender partner of a citizen some rights to emigrate to the country. They are Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, The Netherlands, Denmark and Norway. We will discuss how to get more countries to do this. 3) A major topic of QI will be the situation of couples separated by immigration laws which do not recognize queer relationships. 4) QI is intended to act as a resource and support system for queers impacted by immigration policy. To join the Queer Immigration (QI) mailing list send a message to MAJORDOMO@abacus.oxy.edu with a one line message 'subscribe qi'.
