[srpflag]--Southern Region PFLAG list (Serving PFLAG chapters, members, and allies in TX and LA.) The mission of Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays is to SUPPORT, EDUCATE, and ADVOCATE for lesbigays and their families and friends... join us on the srpflag list. What's a "list?" A list is a fast and efficient way for many ppl to share information and talk to each other thru e-mail. If someone sends a message to the list, the message is automatically copied and sent to everyone else on the list. You cannot send or receive messages to the list unless you are subscribed to the list. How do you "subscribe?" Simply send the following info in the BODY (and NOT the subject line) of a message to---->> listserv@tamvm1.tamu.edu subscribe srpflag FirstName LastName For example, Jane Doe would send the following message: subscribe srpflag Jane Doe If you do this correctly, a "welcome to srpflag" message will be sent to you. This message will explain different listserv commands and how you can send messages or "post" to the list. PLEASE NOTE: Once you are subscribed to the list, you will send messages to the list at an address other than the listserv one. You will send messages to the Southern Region PFLAG List at----->> srpflag@tamvm1.tamu.edu --------------------- Purpose of the list... Southern Region PFLAG chapters include: (in LA) Baton Rouge, Lafayette, New Orleans, Shreveport, and Theriot; (in TX) Athens, Austin, Bryan-College Station, Dallas, Denton, El Paso, Fort Worth, Houston, Lubbock, Odessa/Midland, San Antonio, and Waco. Hopefully, at least one member of each chapter will actively participate on the srpflag list. Possible uses of the list: --Share happenings at monthly meetings. Did you have a guest speaker? What are your meetings like? --Give tips on special projects and services. Do you have a Speakers Bureau? A scholarship program? Have you built good relations with the local school district or police department? How did you go about it? --Offer contact numbers and resources. Have you come across some new literature or video or buttons/posters? How do you order them? Did you find a contact with a helpful organization or speaker? --Announce and/or organize regional meetings and conferences. We might discuss when/where/if the next Southern Region PFLAG Meeting should be held. If PFLAG Houston decides to have another "Healing the Hurt" Conference on Homophobia, they can share ideas and progress and issues with other chapters if they wish. --Discuss issues facing chapters. How do we reach out to parents and families? --Discuss issues facing individuals. How do families deal with "coming out?" -- Finally, it may be a good idea for at least one person from each chapter to introduce themselves and their chapter when they first subscribe to the list... -------------- lol@qrd.org, 27 May 1995
