OUTIL: OUT IN LINGUISTICS about the list this mailing list is open to lesbian, gay, bisexual, dyke, queer, homosexual, etc. linguists and their friends. the only requirement is that you be willing to be out to everyone on the list as glb(-friendly); it's sort of like wearing a pink triangle. the list is for the use of anyone on it. you are welcome to send invitations, messages, queries, whatever, to anyone on the list. please use some judgment in deciding what to send to the whole list. personal abuse is obviously inappropriate. please do not post "personals ads" or advertisements for commercial products. try not to post material that has to do neither with linguistics nor with sexuality. if you are in doubt about the suitability of a posting, check first with the list-elf, zwicky@ling.ohio-state.edu. how to subscribe the mailing list is "closed", which means that new subscribers must be approved by the list maintainer (arnold zwicky), but it is not moderated, which means that the maintainer doesn't filter the messages; subscriptions and unsubscriptions will seem almost automatic, in any case. to get on or off the list, you can mail the appropriate one of the following messages to majordomo@lists.stanford.edu: subscribe outil unsubscribe outil but you can also get directly to a human being by mailing to zwicky@csli.stanford.edu or outil-request@csli.stanford.edu. the name can be pronounced in english, to rhyme with "shout'll", or in french, anglicized if you wish to something like "ooh, teal". yes, in the latter case it means `tool'. the organization, if such it can be said to be, is deeply anarchic; nobody is in charge of anything, and anyone is welcome to institute any sort of event. (arnold zwicky merely maintains the list.) the only official purposes of the group are to be visible and to gather occasionally to enjoy one another's company; but we are all welcome to engage in any activity we can rouse interest in. just because arnold zwicky doesn't do capitalization doesn't mean you shouldn't. _________________________________________________________________ lol@qrd.org, 2 Oct 95
