Date: Mon, 11 Mar 1996 00:51:02 +0000 From: Aaron Lucier NASPAGLB is now NGLB-L and has a New Home! The Network's email mailing list has moved from Western Illinois University to a new site at East Carolina University as of the Fall of 1995. Along with this move the list is changing it's name to NGLB-L, due to software changes. Please feel free to use the email list for any notices or information you want to share with your fellow NASPA professionals concerned with GLB issues. Job postings, requests for program information, activist alerts, conference roommate requests, and GLB campus news are all welcome to be posted on the email mailing list. To send a message to all the people currently subscribed to the list, just send mail to NGLB-L@ECUVM.CIS.ECU.EDU. This is called "sending mail to the list", because you send mail to a single address and LISTSERV makes copies for all the people who have subscribed. This address (NGLB-L@ECUVM.CIS.ECU.EDU) is also called the "list address". You must never try to send any commands to that address, as it would be distributed to all the people who have subscribed. All commands must be sent to the "LISTSERV address", LISTSERV@ECUVM1.BITNET (or LISTSERV@ECUVM.CIS.ECU.EDU). All commands to the list should be sent as mail: one command at a time, with no subject and without any signature file. If you have trouble sending mail in this form please contact your system administrator. You can subscribe to the list by sending a "SUBSCRIBE NGLB-L Your Full Name" command to LISTSERV@ECUVM1.BITNET (or LISTSERV@ECUVM.CIS.ECU.EDU). LISTSERV will take the address that you mailed from as the address to send you mail at, so if you have multiple addresses make sure the one you send the command from is where you want NGLB-L to be sent. Please, also remember to leave the list and then resubscribe when your address is changing for any reason. This saves the list owner a great deal of time tracking down expired mail addresses. You may leave the list at any time by sending a "SIGNOFF NGLB-L" command to LISTSERV@ECUVM1.BITNET (or LISTSERV@ECUVM.CIS.ECU.EDU). You can also tell LISTSERV how you want it to confirm the receipt of messages you send to the list. If you do not trust the system, send a "SET NGLB-L REPRO" command and LISTSERV will send you a copy of your own messages, so that you can see that the message was distributed and did not get damaged on the way. After a while you may find that this is getting annoying, especially if your mail program does not tell you that the message is from you when it informs you that new mail has arrived from NGLB-L. If you send a "SET NGLB-L ACK NOREPRO" command, LISTSERV will mail you a short acknowledgement instead, which will look different in your mailbox directory. With most mail programs you will know immediately that this is an acknowledgement you can read later. Finally, you can turn off acknowledgements completely with "SET NGLB-L NOACK NOREPRO". Contributions sent to this list are automatically archived. You can get a list of the available archive files by sending an "INDEX NGLB-L" command to LISTSERV@ECUVM1.BITNET (or LISTSERV@ECUVM.CIS.ECU.EDU). You can then order these files with a "GET NGLB-L LOGxxxx" command, or using LISTSERV's database search facilities. Send an "INFO DATABASE" command for more information on the latter. Please note that it is presently possible for anybody to determine that you are signed up to the list through the use of the "REVIEW" command, which returns the e-mail address and name of all the subscribers. If you do not want your name to be visible, just issue a "SET NGLB-L CONCEAL" command. More information on LISTSERV commands can be found in the LISTSERV reference card, which you can retrieve by sending an "INFO REFCARD" command to LISTSERV@ECUVM1.BITNET (or LISTSERV@ECUVM.CIS.ECU.EDU). Questions concerning the operation and/or content of this list should be sent to the list owner: Aaron Lucier at his email address rllucier@ecuvm.cis.ecu.edu
