1.  LIST PURPOSE
This list is open to women ONLY, in order to create a safe and
independent space for us to discuss research in the field of lesbian
studies.  The list is for **academic** discussions only, relating to
lesbian and bi history, literature, cultures, politics, theories, etc., and
should not be used for general chat.  (See the "other lists" below for
other related lists.)

2.  ADMINISTRATIVE REQUESTS
Requests to subscribe, unsubscribe, get the info file or find out who's on
the list must be sent to:  MAJORDOMO@QUEERNET.ORG    Administrative requests
sent to any other address will not be executed; write to the listowner ONLY
in an emergency.

To get the info file, send the message:  info lesbian-studies
To see who's on the list, send the message:  who lesbian-studies
To find out which email address you subbed under:  which

Subject lines are not required for administrative requests.  Type ONLY the
words required to execute the command; additional words like "please"
cannot be processed by the majordomo server (an automated program that
reads mail as commands).

*NOTE: should you find yourself no longer receiving posts from the list, it
is possible that your email address was unsubscribed from the list file because
of problems with your system.  In that event, please try subscribing again.

3.  POSTING POLICIES
Appropriate posts:  The lesbian-studies list exists to facilitate the
exchange of information, resources, and ideas in the field of lesbian
studies -- to that end, I encourage you to post relevant bibliographies,
book reviews, excerpts from papers, conference announcements, and calls for
papers (just make sure what you post is clearly relevant to lesbian studies
as an academic field).  You are also encouraged to participate in dialogue
about current issues in lesbian studies, such as: the relationship of
lesbian studies to queer studies and/or women's studies; the impact that
queer theory and postmodernism have on the field; and the problems/benefits
of developing specifically "lesbian" theories/critiques of culture,
language, art, and
politics; the relationship between bisexual-feminism and lesbian-feminism, etc.

Introductions:  Shortly after you subscribe, please post a short bio to the
list describing your research interests and other relevant information about
yourself.  Your bio should *definitely* include your name and Email
address, but you might also want to include: current university,
department, degree held/pursuing, undergrad degree/college/year of
graduation, other degrees, professional goals, and publications/conferences.

Netiquette:  Flames and other kinds of rude 'Net behavior will not be
tolerated; please remember that what you "say" on any list is more permanent
than even what you write in a casual letter to a friend, so choose your words
accordingly.  Some scholars may subscribe to the list without participating,
so please remember to treat ALL academic work with respect and fair
judgment, even if you disagree with its claims or assumptions.  Debate
is welcome and encouraged, but please remember that this is an academic
forum; random venting and whining isn't any more welcome here
than it would be at an academic conference or committee meeting.
