Subject: ** ACTION ALERT Shutting Down **


Dear ACTION ALERT Subscribers,

For many years now, this list has made you aware of issues in the GLBT*
community that need attention. Your responses have made a difference, whether it
is legislation banning discrimination, enacting hate crime laws, writing to
politicians, or addressing biased news coverage in the media.

The number of users and organizations on the internet has mushroomed in the past
few years. This mailing list was around before many were online. Now that many
GLBT* organizations are online, they've started their own "action alert" mailing
lists. Some also have mailing lists for press releases.

So, this list has served its purpose. But the time has come to retire it, as the
number of alerts sent to this list has been near zero for the past several
months. In fact, many of the most recent alerts have actually been copies of
alerts from other mailing lists.

We will provide you with links (or mailing addresses) of other GLBT* related
sites (below) and encourage you to subscribe yourself to them.  We will not
subscribe users to other lists or give member information to anyone. In fact,
the contents of this list will be deleted (in essence an auto-unsubscribe for
everyone). So there is no need to send an unsubscribe command to the list
server.

Grassroots activism is where it's at!  The Religous Right is well organized
through its churches. Remember: every letter, email, phone call, or FAX does
make a difference.
