ABC is in the process of deciding whether to renew Ellen for another season and it is under a lot of pressure to cancel this wonderful, historic show. While Ellen consistently wins the ratings race in its timeslot, ABC has been ambivalent about the program, failing to promote it aggressively and instituting parental warnings because of its content. ABC and its parent company, the Walt Disney Co., continue to be pressured by religious political extremist groups because of the show and their company policies that treat lesbian and gay employees fairly. The extremist American Family Association has begun urging its adherents to demand that ABC pull Ellen, claiming that such a decision would indicate that Americans reject such fair and accurate representations of lesbians and gay men. Ellen needs your support now! Now is the time to contact ABC and Disney and let them know how much you value the show. Tell them how important this program is to the television-watching public, especially young people who might be dealing with their own sexual orientation and families with gay and lesbian members. Ellen fulfills a critical need for fair, accurate and humorous portrayals of lesbians and gays in prime-time television.
