For the curious,

This was a relatively uneventful month for the QRD.  No major changes 
occurred, although a new access method was enabled: Mosaic.  More 
information on accessing the QRD via Mosaic will become available 
shortly.  We also added several mirror sites, at least two of which are 
outside the US.  More on that later too.

At 2:15 a.m. this morning, there were 2819 files in the QRD at a total of
28.5M.  This is almost a hundred files less than last month, but the disk 
space used grew by 3 megs.

During the month of September there were a total of 32,193 accesses to the
QRD: 15,707 via FTP and 16,486 via gopher -- an increase of more than
10,000 accesses over last month.  October 4 saw the most number of FTP
hits (2258), and October 5 saw the median (282); the mean was 523.  
October 12 saw the most number of Gopher hits (849), and October 16 saw 
the median (548); the mean was 549.
