GLSEN National Conference - Teaching Respect for All 3-Tiered Youth Scholarship Program (23 years of age and under) Apply Online @ http://www.glsen.org/pages/sections/news/calendar/conference/2000/youthaid Scholarship Deadline: August 25th, 2000 (Applications received sooner will be considered first) Midwestern Scholarship Deadline: August 1st, 2000 GLSEN is proud to announce it's exciting 3-tiered Youth Scholarship Program for the 4th Annual GLSEN National Conference; Teaching Respect For All 2000 in Chicago, IL Oct 6-8. Teaching Respect for All is the premiere national summit for those working to end anti-gay prejudice in America's K-12 schools. In order to maximize the number of youth able to receive needed financial support, and to provide assistance for a diverse group of youth, GLSEN has developed the following three levels of scholarship opportunities. All youth scholarship applications already received will be considered for one of the following scholarships by their regional location. 1) Chicago Area Youth Scholarships - Available to youth from the city of Chicago and outlying suburbs, GLSEN will award scholarships worth $85 for use towards conference registration fees, allowing Chicago-area youth to attend the conference at a significantly-reduced conference fee of $40. All conference workshops and events are included in this price.* 2) Mid-Western Youth Scholarships: Because GLSEN is committed to bringing youth together from all walks of life, four full youth scholarships per state are available to youth currently living within Mid-Western Region (IA, IL, IN, KS, MI, MN, MO, ND, NE, OH, OK, SD, WI). Criteria for consideration will include need of financial aide, commitment to the GLSEN mission of safe schools and a 100-word essay detailing your own experience and commitment within your community. Any youth from a mid-western state not selected for a full scholarship will automatically be considered for GLSEN's National scholarship.* 3) National Youth Scholarships: GLSEN will also offer a National Youth Scholarship for the third year. This year, GLSEN will award scholarships covering the entire costs of conference registration ($125) and will work with the GLSEN Chicago chapter to provide community housing. Because GLSEN believes in the power & energy of youth, scholarship winners will be expected to fundraise for their own travel expenses.* * Scholarships are awarded on the basis of need, commitment, and interest. All scholarships must be applied for. All participants are responsible for their own meals.
