A number of people were under the impression that this order helps teachers and staff at local schools. This is incorrect. Please note that this is referring to the training and education of FEDERAL GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES and does not cover public schools. Public Schools in the U.S. are run by City, County or State agencies, and so must pass through those local bodies to garner protections of this kind. This order is of great importance to employees of the Federal Government, of course, but has no effect directly on teachers or staff at local schools. I double checked this information with lawyers at the ACLU. thanks tony Tony O'Rourke Northeast Regional Field Organizer GLSEN 212-727-0135 ex 110 torourke@glsen.org Website: www.glsen.org GLSEN National Conference Chicago/Arlington Heights October 6-8 2000 ==================================================================== This message has been distributed as a free informational service for the expressed interest of non-profit research and educational purposes only.
