He rejected a call by William Hague, the Tory leader, to abandon repeal of the clause in the face of widespread criticism and attacked the critics for using the controversy to "exploit anti-gay feelings". In a significant hardening of the Tories' stance on retaining the ban, Mr Hague said opponents of the move included archbishops and cardinals, the Chief Rabbi, the Muslim Council and the Chief Inspector of Schools. A number of these students told of anti-gay remarks coming from TEACHERS and about how many teachers are enablers, when they fail to stop anti-gay remarks and harssment while in their prescence, in the classroom or hallways. Also, congratulations to the Capital Region Chapter of the Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network, GLSEN, for organizing this wonderful educational event. The use of a public venue (Troy's City Hall Chamber) and the live broadcasting on radio is precedent setting. CSS-NYS has always advocated the use of public venues, particularly schools for these events (most public schools allow after school building use for not for profit organizations, events/meetings). CSS-NYS recommends similar "Youth Speak Out" events across the state with written and audio/video documention. ========================================================= This message has been distributed as a free informational service for the expressed interest of non-profit research and educational purposes only.
