Our Opponents Highlight Governor's "Gay" Goals... >From 1/25/99 "Culture Facts", put out by the Family Research Council: "California Governor Gray Davis (D) has indicated he will allow the Department of Social Services to place children in the homes of homosexual couples. In addition, he has said he will support a bill extending health benefits to the sex partners of "gay" state employees. "Homosexual activists are ecstatic about Davis's election, and are offering a number of bills to move their agenda forward in the state. These include AB 26 by lesbian Assemblywoman Carole Midgen and SB 75 by Senator Kevin Murray, which would require the state to recognize "domestic partnerships" as equal to marriage. Midgen's bill would also force private insurance companies to offer spousal coverage to unmarried "domestic partners." AB 107 by Assemblyman Wally Knox of West Hollywood would do the same for the sex partners of homosexual and unmarried state employees. "In addition, lesbian Assemblywoman Sheila Kuehl is offering the "Dignity for All Students" bill, which purports to bar discrimination on the basis of "sexual orientation" in education. "The California Alliance for Pride and Equality (CAPE), a group formed to fight the passage of the California DOMA ballot initiative in March 2000, is also promoting a bill that would add "sexual orientation" to the Fair Employment and Housing Act. "Under Gov. Davis's leadership, it is likely that all of these bills will be signed into law unless there is a vigorous protest from pro-family Californians." NOTE the language used by the Family Research Council, Gary Bauer's homo-hating group based in Washington D.C. There's health benefits for our "sex partners," a domestic partner registry that is the "equal" to marriage, the Dignity for All Students bill which "purports" to bar discrimination... They also incorrectly note that CAPE was organized to fight the passage of Pete Knight's Initiative. CAPE will be focusing on the legislative work in the state capitol, and on grass roots organizing statewide, not the so-called Cal-DOMA.
