Queer Theories: A National Conference on Gay & Lesbian Studies The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual Student Union (GLBSU) at the University of Nevada, Reno is sponsoring a national conference on Gay and Lesbian related topics. The conference will be held in conjunction with several other related events during National Coming Out Week (October 9 - 11, 1998) at the University of Nevada, Reno. The main purpose of the conference is to advance basic research about Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender issues. All graduate and undergraduate students as well as faculty are invited to submit a proposal for presentations from any academic field. Presentation topics may include, but are not limited to the origin of sexual orientation; cognitive differences in gay men and lesbians compared to heterosexual men and women; gender studies of analog animals; religion and sexuality; political trends affecting America's homosexual citizens; hate crimes; HIV studies; etc. This conference may be of particular interest to those in the field of social work, sociology, psychology, human rights, civil rights, and political science. Interested parties should send a one page abstract to . In the event that more abstracts are submitted than time and space will allow, a panel of faculty, staff, students, and community members at large will narrow down the number of papers and posters for presentation based on the scholarly merit of the research.
