JOB POSTING The Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) "Teaching Respect For All In Our Schools" Title: Assistant Director of Development Objective: To assist in development and management of tasks related to fundraising, marketing and public relations. Major emphasis on events and prospect identification and cultivation. Responsibilities Include: * Prospect Identification: Identify potential donors via spheres of influence of current contacts and donors to other organizations. * Events: Empower, enable and encourage volunteers around the country to raise money for GLSEN via events. Create and oversee a GLSEN signature event. * Foundations: Maintain and follow a calendar of proposal deadlines for foundation current contributors and prospects. Research to ascertain if foundations (and corporations)are appropriate sources for GLSEN appeals. * Administration: Assemble, maintain and manage an accurate computerized database; oversee all data-entry and processing of financial contributions to the organization. Supervise outside vendors on all list management, design, and printing relating to fundraising. * Writing: Oversee donor acknowledgment process. Assist in creation of promotional materials. * Supervision: Work with interns and all consultants responsible for fundraising materials, ie: mailhouse, printers, writers, charitable solicitation processors. Qualifications * excellent interpersonal skills * knowledge of fundraising skills and techniques * commitment to GLSEN's mission * computer proficiency: Macintosh, databases, internet, web pages, email * excellent communication skills - both orally and in writing * understanding of the 'lay'/'professional' relationship * knowledge of the gay and lesbian community * attention to detail * high enthusiasm Additional Comments: GLSEN is a demanding work environment. The nature of this position will require travel as well as some evening and weekend work. Applicants should enjoy the challenge of multi-tasking in a fast-paced setting.
