NYAC is a unique collaboration of national and community-based member organizations working to improve the lives of GLBT youth. POSITION DESCRIPTION: The HIV/STD Prevention Project Trainer participates in all of NYAC's efforts to strengthen HIV and STD prevention education programs and services for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender youth and young men who have sex with men. These activities include but are not limited to conducting presentations and trainings with national, state, and local audiences; providing technical assistance; collecting information; and developing resource materials. SUPERVISOR: NYAC Director DESCRIPTION: Full Time Position. New Position. LOCATION: Washington, DC STARTING SALARY: $30,000 - $35,000 RESPONSIBILITIES * Works with other national organizations, NYAC staff members, and NYAC Participating Organizations to coordinate and integrate HIV education and prevention activities; * Plans and/or conducts national, state, and local presentations, trainings, and workshops in collaboration with other national organizations; * Provides technical assistance on HIV/STD issues to national, state, and local youth-serving agencies, HIV/AIDS service organizations, GLBT youth groups, and coalitions; * Conducts research on resources and trends in the field of HIV prevention and GLBT youth and young men who have sex with men; * Develops working relationships with national, state, and local HIV/AIDS service organizations, youth-serving organizations, and GLBT youth groups; * Provides technical assistance on HIV/STD prevention for youth in high-risk situations, including presentations, personal meetings, correspondence, and phone contacts; * Represent NYAC at conferences and meetings with other organizations and coalitions; * Supervise NYAC assistants or interns as appropriate; and * Other responsibilities as requested. QUALIFICATIONS * Demonstrated understanding of, and four to six years experience in, HIV/STD prevention education and/or service provision; * Demonstrated understanding of issues affecting GLBT young people and general awareness of organizations and resources available in the field of GLBT youth services; * Demonstrated experience providing HIV/STD prevention trainings and conference presentations to a broad range of audiences; * Demonstrated experience working with multiracial/multicultural organizations and programs addressing needs of low income communities and/or communities of color. Commitment to promoting access to, and inclusion of, GLBT youth in national/state/local systems designed to support young people (including schools, child welfare, juvenile justice, and social services); * Ability to travel nationwide on a regular basis; and * Excellent research, writing, verbal, computer, and organizational skills & ability to work independently.
