They are: Resolution on Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Youths in the Schools Fact Sheet: Bullying Position Statement: School Violence The materials are available free of charge from NASP. Call Vicki Stanhope at (301) 657-0270, e-mail NASP8455@aol.com or write at 4340 East West Highway, Ste. 402, Bethesda, MD 20814. NASP has a web page where the the resolution and the position statement are posted - address: http://www.uncg.edu/~ericcas2/nasp =========== =========== school-related elections results: Out lesbian Brooklyn (NY) School Board member Jill Harris was re-elected in Nov. 1996. Out gay man Gary Miller was re-elected to the Robla (CA) school board in Nov. (Robla is near the state capitol, Sacramento, and conservative). Dr. Juanita Owens, out lesbian, was elected to San Francisco (CA) School Board Nov. 1996. BAD GUY (former NH State Board of Ed. President) Ovide Lamontagne, ran for governor of NH and LOST, in part because of his negative stands on education issues (he was anti-gay. he did not oppose creationism. etc.) NH elected its first-ever woman governor (D) as a result!!! in Utah, UPDATE FROM NOVEMBER 1996 ELECTIONS: Salt Lake City School Board: Ila Rose Fife and Roger Thompson were two (of three) Salt Lake School Board members who voted earlier this year to allow gay clubs in the schools and both were up for re-election. Fife easily won re-election in her liberal west Salt Lake neighborhood (even her opponent was liberal), but Thompon was ousted by a more conservative candidate (vote tally 4420 to 2811). 25 Democrats won their contests for the Utah Legislature yesterday. (Definitely more seats than Demos held from 1994 to 1996). Republican Mormons still overwhelmingly dominate the Legislature, however. Provo Republican Rep. Jordan Tanner, who was AMAZING during the gay clubs debate earlier this year, was unopposed yesterday, so he's back in. The Utah State School Board is considering a resolution to ban gay clubs in particular from Utah schools, and none of the new or returning members of that Board are in favor of the gay clubs.
