Since 1993, District 202 has been home to the Mid-West's only non-profit youth center by and for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender youth and friends. We average over 500 visits a month by youth who come to get involved in community, find resources, make new friends, dance, and just HANG OUT! ; URL= http://www.greylizard.com/dist202home In addition to a resource center, support groups, etc, District 202 provides a Youth Speakers Bureau. The speakers bureau provides: suggestions for working effectively with youth in regard to lesbian/gay/bisexual and transgender youth; education on the experience of L/G/B/T youth in our culture; and information on providing a supportive environment to L/G/B/T youth. Speakers facilitate discussions of sexual orientation, gender identity and homophobia while sharing their own powerful stories. Group-specific handouts (Bibliographies for youth and adults, posters, resource lists, etc.) are available. Youth speakers are available throughout the year. Speakers have experience providing education and trainings to both youth serving professionals and youth. In 1994, more than 1000 individuals were reached by District 202 speakers. If you are interested in becoming a youth speaker, want to bring a speaker to your community, school or organization, or are interested in setting up similar programs, please contact District 202 AS INDICATED ABOVE and they'll send you more information! ---------------- [from GLAAD/SFBA comes the following:] Resources for activists working to reform school books and school boards include "Saving Our Schools from the Religious Right: The Lake County, Florida Story" (a publication available from Saving Our Lake County Schools, P.O.
