[From the San Francisco Bay Times Nov. 14 '96] "In Virginia Beach, a teacher who won a national prize for excellence has come out of the closet as a lesbian. Grace Clark said that remarks by GOP vice-presidential candidate Jack Kemp, who spoke out against gay teachers during the campaign, made her so mad she had to do it. 'It was terrible. It just pushed a button,' said Clark, who promptly called the local gay paper to go public. Clark won the Sallie Mae National First-Class Teacher Award, given to one rookie teacher in every state. Her school's administration has been supportive. 'She's an outstanding teacher,' said assistant principal Catherine Rogers. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+ OK TO RE-POST.
