The Alliance's proposal encourages teachers to hang rainbow triangles in their rooms in order to "symbolize the safety of these classrooms for gay or bisexual students. The countering viewpoint was not virulently homophobic, and, indeed, expressed support for the concept that "people of minority status should have the right to feel accepted and safe from ridicule." The countering view then hinges its opposition on the theory that the triangles are political expression and opening the door to all such statements would make classroom bulletins boards rather too cluttered. (!) We at The P.E.R.S.O.N. Project just learned of this school newspaper article and the debate over the rainbow triangles. Anyone having information about the outcome is urged to let us know. Those wishing to support the newspaper's openness to debating the subject and the triangle concept should contact BOTH: Steven P. Now, folks, CA is a conservative state, so if 95% of CA parents support AIDS education in the schools, then presumably at least a majority do so in every other state. It might be a helpful tactic to undertake similar surveys in other states to establish a factual basis for shoring up legislative support for AIDS education against present or future attack. Such reputable surveys can also be used to argue AGAINST requiring affirmative parental consent for such programs, particularly where such a requirement exists or is proposed at the statewide level, since this only adds unnecessary administrative burden and costs to school districts. [We thank GLOBE of Southern Alameda County in CA for these arguments]. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+ OK TO RE-POST. Jessea Greenman The P.E.R.S.O.N.
