The conference will be held on October 14 at Holy Names College in Oakland, California. This day of speakers, panels, and workshops is sponsored by the Bay Area Network of Gay and Lesbian Educators and the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Teachers Network which is a national organization. Academy Award winner Debra Chasnoff, with co-producer Helen Cohen, will open the day with a glimpse of their film currently in production, "Don't Look the Other Way". Sheila Kuehl, California Assemblymember and Tom Ammiano, San Francisco Board of Supervisors will keynote the close of the day. In between, there will be over 40 workshops, information sessions, films, performances and discussion groups that will bring together educators and community members. Participants will receive concrete strategies to reduce homophobia and create positive change in both schools and society. All members of the community, regardless of sexual orientation, are invited to take part in this work. Workshops for administrators and families, as well as for teachers at all levels and students in high school and college are included.
