LOS ANGELES--HERO, the nation’s leading gay men’s lifestyle magazine has published the first guide to weddings ever created for the gay male market. The HERO Wedding Guide hits newsstands Aug. 1 and features 132 pages of resources, "how-to" articles, and planning checklists, as well as stories on dealing with religious aspects, throwing a bachelor party, and making the wedding night memorable. While same-sex marriages are not yet recognized in the U.S., that didn’t stop HERO from leading the way. "Gay men have been having weddings, holy unions and commitment ceremonies for years," says HERO Editorial Director and CEO Paul Horne. "The recent Supreme Court decision in Vermont clearly indicates that the HERO Wedding Guide is a resource whose time has come." The Wedding Guide also features a photo gallery from a "mass wedding" held during the Millennium March on Washington last April. Other articles include: The 10 best honeymoon destinations for men, a formal fashion guide, and a complete resource guide of gay-friendly registries, florists, photographers, caterers and venues. The guide will be updated annually and available online at heromag.com. With a print run of 75,000 and more than 200,000 readers, the 132-page issue is HERO's biggest to date. The magazine's circulation has quadrupled since its 1998 launch, and ad pages are up by 200% in 2000, according to Horne. After publishing bimonthly for 2 years, HERO will begin publishing monthly in October. In its May issue, Library Journal named HERO "One of the 10 Best New Magazines of 1999" alongside mainstream titles like Talk, Code, and Ebay. *** For Wedding Guide cover art, visit http://www.heromag.com/press.
