Following a favorable vote by the full Faculty Council and also by the Administrative Management Council, President Oliva has decided to extend full benefits to domestic partners of NYU employees. These will include not only medical and dental coverage but also the full range of benefits including tuition remission. He has asked a newly formed commission to propose a plan for implementiation, covering same-sex partners of faculty, administrators and staff and to recommend criteria for same-sex domestic partners with a deadline of Spring 1994. NYU's Association of Lesbian and Gay Faculty, Administrators and Staff has asked that this be implemented sooner, in time for the October open enrollment period for health insurance. NYU is the largest private university in the US -- we have approx. 40,000 students and 10,000 people on the payroll (of courthat includes TA's, RA's, student employees, etc.
