The NOGLSTP office has been hard at work researching work- place issues. Kate Hutton (DL meister) and Shelley Diamond (chair) traveled to Stanford U. in early October to attend the National G & L Task Force's "Workplace Issues Conference" As a result, NOGLSTP is now on the NGLTF workplace issues steering committee. NGLTF is opening a San Francisco office with a full time staff person, George Kronenberger. This office will strict- ly be for workplace issues and will provide a resource center to those needing information. NGLTF has published a preliminary study of Fortune 1000 companies their responses and policies if they have them. This is an ongoing project which we will be helping with by providing information as we get it. So if you have documentation on company policy send it to the NOGLSTP office. Those who are interested in having the preliminary report sent to them may contact the NOGLSTP office, we have copies of it. Kate O'Hanlon, president of the American Physicians for Human Rights and a gyn/ob at Stanford University, and Rich Jen- nings of Hollywood Supports gave a wonderful workshop on domestic partner benefits. Stanford U. has put together a 76 page study on the ethics and implementation of such benefits, a truly re- markable document. The NOGLSTP office has copies of this also, along with materials provided by Hollywood Supports which as helped the Hollywood industry integrate these benefits into their employee packages. They also provided information on insurance companies willing to provide coverage to companies. There is now documentation though Stanford, the Cities of Seattle and West Hollywood, and a few companies, that the costs to provide such insurance is none to negative and as a matter of fact, insurance providers have refunded increased premiums back to the employers. NOGLSTP plans to write an educational pamphlet containing this information sometime in early spring after the AAAS symposi- um. Those wishing to participate in this project, please contact the NOGLSTP office. Writers, proofreaders and experts, and eager helpers are welcome. Thanks for your discussion and concerns. Your ideas help NOGLSTP to form a consensus of priorities which help to steer this organization. Much more on this subject will be appearing in NOGLSTP newsletters, so don't forget to become a bonified member and support your organization. One last thing - Kate the DL meister will be getting us on- line with America ON-LINE through software subsidized by Digital Queers so that we can network with other G & L organizations.
