The "Lesbian, Gay & Bisexual History Month Project" will serve as a national information clearinghouse, will make educational materials available to students and teachers, will coordinate national media relations, and will work to establish Local Coordinating Councils in cities and towns and on campuses across the United States. The History Month Project will be administered by the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Teachers Network (GLSTN), whose executive director, Kevin Jennings, will serve as administrator of History Month. The National Coordinating Council will be chaired by Rodney Wilson, the St. Louis high school teacher widely credited as the founder of History Month. "Last year at this time we were still getting key national organizations to support the concept," said Kevin Jennings. "Plans for 1995 began on November 1, 1994, and we are pleased to be able to announce that we have History Month information available in brochure form for any who write, call or e-mail us." The History Month brochure not only details how to support the History Month Project, but gives ideas of how to celebrate History Month, where to go for more information, and whom to contact if interested in setting up local activities. Several gay & lesbian historians have endorsed the History Month Project and have agreed to donate copies of their books to those who make significant donations to the Project. Authors Martin Duberman, Lillian Faderman, and Eric Marcus have all secured donations of their books to support outreach. "What began as an idea to draw attention to our history has become a movement of international proportions," said Rodney Wilson. "We want to ensure that everyone knows that gay, lesbian and bisexual people have made important contributions to our nation and world," he added.
