Date: Thu, 30 Jun 94 23:19:28 -0700 The "bi-gendered" construct is effective in the particular capitalist society we have developed, I agree. However, I cannot go so far as to say that the capitalism created the bi-gender construct. This society is almost entirely based on polar concepts. It is enthralled with putting things into black/white yes/no context. Without documenting a convincing proof that capitalism engendered the other fundamental polarities of this culture, the theory will not stand. Gender can be many things, and sometimes only loosely based on the plumbing (witness my own Native American nadle and two-spirit traditions, matters much more related to gender than sexuality, at root). Chew on this, see if it's useful food for thought. --Grey Plemmons --hawkin@u.washington.edu ----- + The preceding message is from the queer-studies mailing list + To submit an article, send it to queer-studies@ferkel.ucsb.edu + To sub, unsub, etc., send mail to queer-studies-request@ferkel.ucsb.edu + Do not send mail to queer-studies-owner@ferkel.ucsb.edu; it is + used only to collect bounce messages.
