I am not reproducing everything in Saturday Nov. 27th's Globe and Mail, (National Edition) because it devoted almost the entire Arts+Books section to AIDS in honour of World AIDS Day, identifying the articles with the sub- headline AIDS AND THE ARTS. However, in various articles and columns it examined the reactions of the cultural community to AIDS, the absence of gay men when the media talks about the 'innocent victims' of AIDS, John Greyson's _Zero Patience_, events across Canada marking World AIDS Day and Day Without Art, author Edmund White, and art exhibitions by gay artists Regan Morris and Stephen Andrews. I will probably get around to posting some of them one by one if I have the time. I will, however, reproduce one article, because the loss strikes close to my heart as an actor/musician and writer. May these men and women rest in peace. ***** Counting the cost Among those the arts community has lost to AIDS are: Alexander Wilson, gardener/journalist Martin Bartlett, composer Peter Mark Schifter, theatre/TV director Christopher Gillis, choreographer Jay Scott, critic/author Norman Andersson, bass-baritone Ariel Rubstein, soprano Eric Steiner, director Ray Sharkey, actor Larry Lillo, director William Dendy, architectural historian Louis Falco, choreographer/director Pascal de Duve, writer Alkis Klonaridis, art dealer Rudolf Nureyev, dancer Liberace, pianist Michael Bidner, artist Craig Russell, actor/impersonator John Hirsh, director Rene Payant, critic/historian Brad Davis, actor Constantin Patsalas, choreographer Paul J.
