The primary objective of the program is to provide an opportunity for highly motivated high-school seniors, college, graduate, and medical school students to engage in clinical and research programs related to pediatric HIV/AIDS, providing the motivation for them to consider future careers in pediatric HIV/AIDS. The intern's work must consist of active participation -- not merely attending clinical rounds and patient discussions. The total of each award is a $2,000 stipend to be paid to the student for 320 hours of work. The program should be oriented toward basic medical, clinical (including epidemiological), or psychological research. The sponsor must indicate the relevance of this internship to pediatric AIDS. The internship may be performed any time during the 12-month period beginning April 25, 1997. Students have the option of applying with a sponsor who is not at the institution they are currently attending. Students must be enrolled in school full-time (or planning on enrolling in the fall) to apply. Students need not be American citizens and there are no restrictions as to age, race, sex, sexual orientation, or creed. International students may apply.
