DESCRIPTION (FUND) The Metropolitan Atlanta Community Foundation and the United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta announce the availability of fiscal year (FY) 1997 funds for their annual AIDS/HIV related grants. The funders are willing to consider support for preventive AIDS education programs and services to persons living with HIV disease. Requests for funding should address projects or programs which fall under one or more of the following priority areas: 1) Advocacy - programs which heighten awareness of the policies that directly affect people living with HIV and impact policy analysis and development; 2) Case Management - the implementation of case management services, training for case managers, and expansion of current case management programs; 3) Community-Based Support Services - home care, access to treatment, legal and financial counseling and assistance, psychological counseling and care, programs for substance abusers, buddy support, pastoral care and practical assistance; 4) Planning and Coordination of Services - collaborative initiatives that build capacity and increase the community's ability to deliver AIDS care services; 5) Positive Living Programs - life management education and wellness programs empowering individuals with HIV disease toward independent living; 6) Preventive Education - creative and innovative preventive education programs for at-risk and under-represented populations initiating and sustaining low-risk behavioral changes; 7) Residential Services - residential housing alternatives, transitional care and other housing supportive services. In collaboration with the United Way AIDS Response Fund, the Atlanta AIDS Fund supports community-based support services, residential services, case management, preventive education, positive living programs, advocacy, and planning and coordination of services for persons with AIDS or at risk of AIDS. Since 1989, the Fund, the largest private grantmaker for HIV/AIDS services, has provided over $2.6 million in grants. In 1993-94 the pooled funds granted a total of $619,550 to 35 organizations.
