The first tape, An Ounce of Prevention, is a 27-minute general tape that focuses on rape avoidance and survival while incarcerated. It is designed to be played during orientation for male prisoners entering the Vermont Corrections System. The second tape, Becoming A Survivor, is a 90-minute rape education and counseling tape specifically for men who are known or suspected to be survivors of sexual assault while incarcerated. The tapes use multi-ethnic speakers and narrators, and prison slang and street jargon to convey maximum realism. The manual is written for prison administrators, mental health professionals, chaplains, counselors, caseworkers, and other staff. The manual reviews the incidence and prevalence of sexual assault in confinement, legal issues, rape trauma syndrome, HIV/AIDS transmission and prevention, and the consequences of administrative policies for the level of sexual violence and the recovery of survivors.
