TI "AIDS Suit Rejected" AU Smith, Roberta SO National Law Journal (12/27/93) Vol. 16, Nos. 17 & 18, P. 6 AB The U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has rejected the lawsuit of a Minnesota man who blamed the federal government for the AIDS infection that swept through his family. Doug Simon filed a suit over three years ago, accusing the government of negligence for its inadequate screening of blood donors. The complaint also charged the government with failure to warn him that he was at high risk for exposure to AIDS. Simon, 28, contracted the virus through a blood transfusion conducted at an Army hospital in Fort Benning, Ga., during basic training. His wife then contracted the virus and passed it on to their daughter either while pregnant or while breast-feeding. Copyright (c) 1993 - Information, Inc., Bethesda, MD.
