TI "AIDS Kids" SO Associated Press (12/30/93) AB Portland, Ore.--An Oregon man accused of trying to infect nine children with the AIDS virus through sexual contact negotiated a plea bargain under which he will probably spend the remainder of his life in prison. Adam Lee Brown, 31, pleaded no contest to three counts of sodomy and one count of reckless endangerment. He was sentenced to 16 years in prison. Had he been convicted of the 43 counts against him--which included attempted murder and rape--Brown would have faced as many as 300 years behind bars. The deal enraged one mother, who said she had been preparing her children to go to court. But Deputy District Attorney William Marshall said that a trial would have been rough on the children, and that Brown probably will not even live to serve his sentence. Authorities said Brown lured the children, some as young as 2 years old, to his house, where he plied them with alcohol, drugs, and pornography. None of the youngsters has tested positive for the disease. Related Story: New York Times (12/30) P. A12; Washington Post (12/30) P. A12 Copyright (c) 1993 - Information, Inc., Bethesda, MD.
