The purpose of the study is to learn about the feelings and experiences of HIV positive physicians, in order to understand what kinds of issues and stresses these men and women face, and how some of these problems and obstacles might be alleviated or addressed. Participants must be physicians who know that they are HIV infected. The study will consist of two interviews of approximately two hours each, and will offer a nominal stipend to participants of $40 ($10 per hour). Interviews will be strictly confidential. Participants will be asked to provide only their first name - not their last name - and may use a pseudonym if they prefer. Participants will be asked to provide a phone number but only for purposes of scheduling interviews. No other identifying information will be collected. Interviews can be held at the office of the Principal Investigator, Robert Klitzman, M.D., at Columbia University or, if the participant prefers, at his or her home. Dr. Klitzman, a member of the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association, will be scheduling interviews in New York City as well as elsewhere in the country. He would be happy to answer any questions or provide further information. To protect confidentiality, please do not reach him on-line, but rather through e-mail at rlk2@columbia.edu, or by telephone at (212)740-7324.
