     NEW GUIDELINE COMBATS UNDER-TREATMENT OF HIV PATIENTS
 
 
     At 11:15 a.m. Thursday, January 20, the Public Health
Service's Agency for Health Care Policy and Research will release
guidelines aimed at rectifying the issue of under-detection and
under-treatment of HIV by family physicians and other primary care
practitioners.
 
     Developed by a 19-member panel of experts and people living
with HIV, the new clinical practice guideline addresses preventive
therapy, special precautions for pregnant women and children,
disclosure of HIV status, and other key selected aspects of the
evaluation and management of early HIV infection.
