Submitted on: January 2, 1993 WASHINGTON -- The U.S. scientist credited with discovering the AIDS virus and a colleague committed scientific misconduct by publishing false and misleading statements in scientific papers describing their groundbreaking work, a government investigation released Wednesday charged. Based on the conclusion, the report from the Public Health Service's Office of Research Integrity recommended that Dr. Robert Gallo and his colleague, Dr. Mikulas Popovic, be supervised for three years to ensure the accuracy of their work.
